Admissions Policy

Purpose and mission
  • Maximum admissions possible, without making compromises
  • A fair and transparent policy for all parents
  • An admission process that is easy for all stakeholders

Leaders who take charge of their lives, work effectively with others, do the right thing when no one is watching and are internationally minded. No unfair discrimination on grounds of disability, gender, religion or belief systems.

IB Standards: Culture (03), policy implementation (0301). Access to an IB education for the broadest possible range of students; policy reviewed; support structures provided (PYP 1-2, MYP 1, DP 1-2).

Open admission

Admission at FWGS is open. Any family interested in an FWGS education can apply, and every grade admits through the year, subject to seat availability.

  • No draws, cut-off scores or waitlists: a child who is ready for the grade is offered a place
  • Dates for the main intake are published on the school website; applications are welcome at any time
  • Priority, case by case: children of staff and siblings of current students may be given priority when a grade has limited seats. The admissions team considers each case individually.

  • Coordinators, principals, teachers and admin staff join per assigned duties

Beyond Grade 2: a candidate who has completed the previous grade, performed satisfactorily in the previous school and cleared the readiness test is admitted to the next class.

  • Grade 12 or Grade 11 term 2: only if shifting from the same curriculum with the same subject choices; reviewed by Senior School Principal. May ask for DP year 1 mid-term and term-end reports and a recommendation letter; DP coordinator may contact the previous school's DPC

DP eligibility: who can enter

Items 1-3 apply as and/or; items 4 and 5 are required.

Internal candidates

FWGS MYP completers moving from Grade 10 to DP: no eligibility criteria and no assessment.

External candidates

  • 1Grade 10 mark sheet from a recognized board; if pending, internal exam results and/or last two years' academic reports
  • 2MYP without internal exams: personal project satisfactorily completed (per internal supervisor)
  • 3MYP with final internal exam: decent academic performance
  • 4Satisfactory behavioral record; never expelled from any Indian or foreign school
  • 5Not charged with any criminal offense before joining
Internal DP process (Appendix 1)
  • 1Career counselor one-on-one with each student to understand interests and career choices
  • 2DPC / Senior School Principal and career counselors hold DP orientation, parents and students separately
  • 3Parents fill first draft of subject selection form on Nucleus
  • 415-minute parent and student meeting, only after stage 1 form is filled, using the school's consolidated Grade 9 and 10 report
  • 5Final subject selection from career choices, discussion and student interest
  • 6Final form opened on Nucleus; later changes only after the window period

Full Diploma is encouraged, but a student may opt for DP course from Grade 11 or decide any time before the final IB exams. The school may counsel some students toward options outside the school.

Reassessment
  • A candidate not yet ready for the grade applied for may be reassessed, with a gap of at least 2 days between reassessments
  • For Grade 11, the school may offer the DP Course option instead of the full Diploma
  • Implications for IBDP are explained and written consent is taken from candidate and parents
DP subject allocation

HL in English, Math and Group 4

A high score in the school test and strong prior proficiency recommended. Others may still choose HL, with periodic progress review and a possible move to SL.

DP Course core (TOK, EE, CAS)

Register for one, two or all three; school decides from entrance test and first three months. Coordinator / Principal report is final. CAS with reflections and a TOK mock presentation are required, with 6 subjects or less.

Subject choice

Students submit subjects via the online form in the school app, Nucleus.

Previously identified learning needs

Case-by-case: admitted if the school can offer the support needed and the candidate can be integrated in the classroom, subject to seats.

  • 1Parent meets admission in-charge and submits a recent psychological report, cognitive record and medical records
  • 2Admissions head and well-being counselors review; additional learning support team joins if needed; parent meeting, candidate interaction and assessment may follow
  • 3Admissions team decides based on results and the school's ability to support, subject to seats
Rejection or cancellation
  • Candidate is not ready for the grade applied for. They may re-appear for the readiness test, decided by the admission head or Senior School Principal
  • Fees not received within the given timeline
  • Any recommendation or outside influence to secure admission: immediate cancellation
Ethical practices
  • Admissions neutral: no religious, caste, political or social affiliations asked
  • Donations or ability to donate are not a factor
  • Outside recommendation or influence cancels the application

  • Language policy: student language profile collected at admission (parents' preferred language, home languages, first-generation English learner)
  • Learning Diversity and Inclusion policy: readiness test shows learning needs, so extra support can be planned
